Valle de los Pedroches

Los Pedroches (or Valle de los Pedroches) is a region of 3,612 km² located in the province of Córdoba, Spain. It forms the northernmost territory of Andalusia, bordering to the north with the province of Badajoz in Extremadura and the province of Ciudad Real, in Castilla-La Mancha. The village of Pedroche, which gives its name to the region, is located in the centre of the region, being the oldest municipality in the area and giving rise to the rest of these villages.

Los Pedroches Valley is a region in the Andalusian province of Cordoba. It is the most northerly area of Andalusia. It covers an area of more than 3,600 square kilometres. The region is made up of a total of 17 municipalities, the capital being Pozoblanco. It should be noted that it is named after the village of Pedroche, located right in the centre of the region and the oldest of all those that make it up. As it is located in the northern part of the province and of the autonomous region, its boundaries are marked by both Castile-La Mancha and Extremadura. It is an area of great beauty that alternates the presence of plains and cultivated fields with places of high altitude. Among the latter is the Arenoso River Valley, in Cardeña. The panoramic view of this place, with its wooded and very green areas, is of great beauty. Also in Cardeña is a natural spot that is very popular with tourists, Los Muros. It is a place where rural tourism is very advanced. As it is a perfect area for rest and surrounded by nature, many people come here to relax and get away from the big cities. To this we must add the option of practising sports such as hiking, cycling or climbing in this place, to which we must add the possibility of horse riding. All this makes the region of Valle de los Pedroches one of the most deeply rooted in rural tourism in Cordoba and Andalusia. If there is one thing that makes this region stand out, it is its gastronomy. The great Andalusian dishes such as gazpacho can be found in this region. But, without a doubt, the star dish is ham, which is one of the most coveted dishes in the province. In terms of inland tourism, it is worth highlighting the monuments and the typical houses of the area. The latter are characterised by their courtyards full of plants located inside the house and by their vaulted ceilings. As far as monuments are concerned, there are countless beautiful religious buildings. These include the Virgen de la Luna Chapel in Los Pedroches, the El Silo Theatre in Pozoblanco and the church of Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación in Santa Eufemia. Finally, if you don't know what time of year to visit this region, it is advisable to do so at Easter. During these days of Christian celebration, the municipalities of the Los Pedroches Valley are decked out and show their best side, as well as displaying images of great beauty.
