In the last decade, with the stabilization of the country's economy, city festivals have made their comeback and many small and medium-sized family businesses, as well as large and recognizable brands, have benefited from participating in cultural events.The masquerade ritual comes from ancient times and is preserved to this day as part of the Bulgarian folklore tradition.Bulgarian games with masks are mainly related to the Christmas or Easter holidays. Masks in folklore beliefs protect against the harmful influence of "bad people" with bad intentions. The International Masquerade Festival "Surva" in Pernik is the largest in Bulgaria and the Balkans. He popularizes variants of the traditional Bulgarian folklore. With its competition, the festival is a meeting and competition of "survakari" and "kukeri". Every year "Surva" is broadcast live on the Television.
